Savvy’s Restaurant (also known as the Beach Cabana) is a welcoming place with a beach resort feel. You can sit at the tables and have the sand below your feet, or sit in the undercover area and be close to live music on the weekends.
With great food and service it is a favourite place for afterwork drinks for locals and the Friday night beach bonfire is a must do.
The hotel also does a day pass at Savvy’s Cabana, where you get food, drinks and the use of their waters ports equipment.
We chatted to their award winning bartender, Antonio. He’s been a bartender for around 19 years and has represented Grenada in international cocktail competitions.
“Welcome to Savvy’s beach cabana, located Mount cinema in Grenada, it’s such a lovely place to be.You’ve got to come to experience it. My name is Antonio Bain. I’ve been a bartender for about 19 years. It’s my life, my love my profession. I was recently to take part in 2019 and the of the Caribbean Competition in Florida representing Grenada, which I was able to grab a bronze medal.Tt was worth the experience, man, I can’t even stress that enough. It’s not only being able to compete with some of the best in the whole Caribbean, but just being there on a whole was an experience that you can never forget.”
Antonio is definitely a passionate mixologist. You can tell when he was preparing our drinks that he is both knowledgeable about he fresh island ingredients and excited by the flavour profiles.
He then described the venue and the overall feel of the place, which summed up nicely as a beach haven.
“If you love the beach and you love lovely dining home at savvy, it is relaxed. Savvy’s is a dressed down atmosphere. So directly from the beach, you can come into the restaurant. We just ask you to cover up a little.”
There are also a variety of weekly specials on at Savvy’s that are worth checking out. From drink and BBQ specials, to their famous beach bonfire and live music.
“We have a lovely mixture of food as well and certain days we have different specials, like on a Saturday right now we’ve implemented, a ribs and rum deal. It’s a $50EC special where you get a complimentary cocktails, the bartenders cocktail of the day. And you also get a rack of ribs with at least two sides for 50EC. I mean, you cannot get that anywhere else right now, straight off our charcoal grill. We have a lovely beach bonfire every Friday night, live music on the Fridays, as well as the Saturdays.
Any of the days during the week, we have lovely background music, lovely atmosphere, chill environment, my cocktail inspiration on the whole it’s challenge.”
When we asked him about his cocktail inspiration, he stated that it was about the challenge of trying new things: “there’s so many amazing herbs spices on the island. Be creative, enjoy, try something new. It’s not everything normal. You got to stick with step outside of box.”
It’ great to see his enthusiasm around creating great drinks and highlighting the amazing ingredients Grenada has to offer.
